Abortion and Contraception Team Up
Abortion and contraception are essentially two sides of the same coin. In fact, abortion would not be possible without the change in how we view marriage that came from contraception. This article underlines this relationship:
Backed by abortion rights groups, three Massachusetts women sued Wal-Mart on Wednesday, accusing the retail giant of violating a state regulation by failing to stock emergency contraception pills in its pharmacies.
Those abortionists know they have to fight for contraception to save their skin! The first comment on this article is likely to be "but this article is concerning the morning after pill." However, as we've pointed out before the Birth Control pill acts as an abortifacient as well. So how can protestant groups protest the morning after pill but not the birth control pill? It isn't logical. Let's go back to before the 1930's when every Christian church condemned contraception . . . may God forgive us all.
God bless,
Jay

I think that we often don't notice why our arguments fall apart. You make a good point on these two things being so deeply linked. People also say that abortion is killing or murder and in the next breath say that in the cases of incest and rape it is ok. Another one is "gay" marriage. Since many of those who are against this are for divorce on demand and pre and extra marital sex, their argument that marriage is special falls apart. It seems that the effort to be reasonable and give way on this and that leads to many big problems, a logical consequence of being illogical.

Great question!
In Love
when we were one
Posted by: when we were one at February 4, 2006 03:24 PMKeep in mind many Protestants do not know that the Birth Control Pill acts as an abortifacient. Their ignorance may very well be excusable given that they have no Infallible Magisterium keeping them informed. The same may go for Catholics given that I've never heard of this being talked of in a sermon. A bishop apparently told Pope John Paul II that God would not send Catholics to hell for using contraception because they did not know better. The Pope agreed and said that the bishops and priests who did not inform the faithful would go to hell instead.
I've met Catholics and Protestants who currently use Natural Family Planning who were always staunchly pro-life, and were heartbroken and devastated when they learned about the abortifacient effects.
They were shocked and hurt not only that this information was hidden from them but that those who informed them were so casual and matter-of-fact about the dreadful truth (most people would have the good sense to consider your feelings and make sure you were sitting down and had some degree of privacy and freedom to respond personally when telling you a family member has died - you'd think similar sensitivity would be given when telling someone they accidentally killed their own child).
I got the impression they could have used a shoulder to cry on instead of being abandoned to a private little hell.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that before accusing people of being illogical, perhaps we could provide them with information (and comfort should they want it).
