Catholic Carnival XIV: A Montage of Themes
This is the first time Deo Omnis Gloria has hosted the Catholic Carnival, so I hope you enjoy.
The blogosphere is as varied as your local parish and thus we have an interesting selection of posts this week. In fact, it’s a great mix of Catholic thought on interesting issues, so dive right in:
theme: unity
The Blog from the Core start us off with a great post on Christian unity in Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity 2005. The post includes some fascinating history and includes the daily prayer intentions.
theme: division
A Penitent Blogger examines Monday’s Gospel passage about a house divided against itself in The House.
theme: contraception
My Domestic Church takes Another Look at the Abortion/Contraception Connection. The post examines how the use and acceptance of contraception weakens the anti-abortion witness.
theme: life
Heart, Mind, & Strength weblog examines Sunday’s readings to understand how Christ can work through us to heal the Culture of Death in The Light of God’s Love vs. the Culture of Death.
theme: faith
CowPi Journal points out that there seems to be two sides of faith that are both necessary in The Coin of Faith. We can choose to accept or reject this “coin.”
theme: prayer
Notes offers us a thoughtful Java applet in Letter. Type mindfully.
theme: home
Fructus Ventris examines where home really is – particularly in today’s mobile lives – in Home. She makes some great points about our attachment to “home.”
theme: family
Santificarnos examines the response of a large Spanish retailer, Corte Ingles, when an advertisement suggested that mothers of large families were “rabbits” in Corte Ingles Agrees Mothers Aren’t Rabbits. The retailer responds in an impressive way (from an American viewpoint).
theme: spirituality
HerbEly reflects on the role of spiritual growth in making intuitive decisions in Hunches, why some are better than others. He starts by examining the premise of a book called Blink and changes it into a spiritual discussion.
theme: euthanasia
Times Against Humanity updates us on the terrible situation of Terri Schindler-Schiavo and her quest for life in Supreme Court Abandons Terri to Judicial Murder.
theme: love
Ales Rarus examines how “Christians” are acting on blogs in ”Take heed that you are not consumed by one another”. He points out that ugly backbiting sends the wrong message to non-Christians and must be stopped.
theme: time
Living Catholicism examines how we should view ordinary time in Extraordinary in the Ordinary: A Meditation on Ordinary Time. There are two stages of Christ’s life (30 out of His 33 years) that help us to reflect on the meaning of Ordinary Time.
theme: obedience
Deo Omnis Gloria offers up Obedience and Faith which examines the relationship between our obedience and our faith.
A multitude of themes, but all point to God in their own way. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
God bless,
Jay
