Abortion and an Ignorant Argument
Clem, a regular poster here, sent me one of the oddest links I've seen. This guy argues that God and the Bible are pro-abortion. He has other articles that argue abortion is actually "moral." I say "argues" although his arguments are terribly bad - my child probably understands Biblical exegesis better - and I noticed he doesn't allow comments (I wonder why!).
My question for protestants is: how do you explain to this guy he's wrong? As a Catholic, I can point to Scripture, which is clear on abortion by the way, and to doctrines of the Church. So even if a Catholic doesn't turn around, I can explain to others why the person isn't really Catholic. But I'm sure the guy in that article has led numerous non-Catholics astray. Why? They don't have the Church's teaching to fall back on if confused on a subject. In other words, because our Church is built on solid rock we can rely on its doctrines, rather than the shifting sand of personal opinion which protestant churches are built on.
I also think it's important to point out that virtually all Christians would agree that this guy's a bozo in our day and time. But even 50 years ago we would have all agreed that contraception is intrinsically evil as well - this could be the future of the protestant church if contraception and/or the Anglican church is analyzed. In fifty years, this guy's nonsense could be popular opinion.
This also is a good example of the notion that without an infallible interpreter, an infallible book is worthless. Even a book as holy as the Bible can be used for evil purposes by the ignorant - as this guy proves.
In the end, you should read the "About the Author" information for some background material. Basically, the guy doesn't believe in the Bible, so why is he using it to try and justify evil acts? It makes about as much sense as his arguments!
God bless,
Jay

Jay,
The guys is wrong because Scripture shows him to be wrong. Simple. I read the article, and like Catholics he is assuming what God thought. Or if you like, he is adhering to what was not said in Scripture. Either way, the man who posted that article is going beyond what is written. Scripture says he is wrong. Even by your admission, Scripture says he is wrong. Now whether or not the individual wants to accept Scripture to be truthful, or if he is twisting Scripture to fit his needs and beliefs, that's between him and God. Regardless, the truth is what it is. Just because you close your eyes in the middle of traffic, it does not make the traffic go away. It is what it is.

I agree wholeheartedly, but this guy would probably argue that the Holy Spirit is guiding him to this knowledge. I just don't understand how you can convince him he's wrong - there is no verse that simply says, "Abortion is a terrible sin."
Just curious as to your response.
God bless,
Jay
Jay,
Thanks for posting this. I read this guy's background and he IS very confused. Notice
he stated that at one time he was very conservative in his thinking and now he is very
liberal. Our biasd and liberal press and our
liberal public schools and colleges are in part to blame for this man's warped thinking.
This man was a Protestant but this thinking is not reserved to former Protestants. I think the point was he once was religious and now he is very secular.. Something must have happened to turn him away from God. He says that he believes in God but it sounds like it is not the God of the bible but some cosmic force.
I don't think he would listen to anything rational or anything scriptural. I know of many who were brought up Catholic that now have a similar outlook on life as this man. George Carlin is a good example. He was brought up Catholic and even was an alterboy. Now he is very anti church and anti bible and anti the Christian definition of God.
This poor misguided soul just happened to have a Protestant background. This warped thinking is NOT unfortunately restricted to only Protestants.
It is a lie from the Father of lies (Satan).
This pathetic soul needs our prayers. He is truly lost ...
Grace and Peace to You,
Clem
Jay,
He could argue that...but it still doesn't change the facts. While the word abortion is not in the Bible, there are two clear distinct items that do show that abortion is wrong. The first item is that God knows us while we are in the womb.
"Did not He who made me in the womb make him, And the same one fashion us in the womb? (Job 31:15)
Yet Thou art He who didst bring me forth from the womb; Thou didst make me trust when upon my mother's breasts. Upon Thee I was cast from birth; Thou hast been my God from my mother's womb. (Psalms 22:9-10)
For Thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Thy works, And my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from Thee, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth. Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Thy book they were all written, The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them. (Psalms 139:13-16)
These verses are clear. You can deny it if you want, but these verses show that life begins in the womb.
"And if men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him; and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life." (Exodus 21:22-23)
A verse that shows the severity of causing an abortion. In addition, because we know that life begins in the womb, we know that to terminate that life is murder. Which violates the commandment of thou shalt not kill. No any individual can claim that they are lead by the spirit. Devils can claim that as well. But thank God for the Scriptures. That way we can check for truth. The individual can have his reasons to believe what he posted, but the truth remains the same. It does not change.
God Bless
Very interesting site from an ex-Christian. Brian McKinley states on his site:
"It's not. On the contrary, abortion is an absolutely moral choice for any woman wishing to control her body."
This puts a different twist on the secularist argument that you can't legislate morality. Here is an example of a secularist arguing that abortion is moral. Can we now strike down the laws allowing for abortion since such laws have legislated someon'e morality?

Are pro-choice politicians accessories to murder?
Posted by: Patrick Teasley at December 4, 2004 01:46 PMI am a pro-choice individual in the sense that only the mother can decide whether or not she is willing to kill the baby. My hope, is that she not kill it. But that if she does, she is committing murder. I hope this is not misconstrued that I am pro-abortion, because I am not. But unfortunately, I cannot dictate, because then I'd be robbing the individual from choosing to make the proper decision on her own. God does not dictate. Yes, he commands, but He allows us the freedom of choice. And that is my ONLY point.
I am Pro-life, not because any law forces me to be for life. But by choice. And in this regard, I can say that I am pro-choice, and pro-life, even though I want the law of the United States of America passed in 1973 to be reversed. But even if it is / or is not / I respect an individual's right to sin, and his/her choice not to sin. Because any other way, is a distrust (confusion) of God's plan. Please do not be angry if you are pro-life. I AM WITH YOU! But I must respect the "freedom" God allows the individual, even though I do not have to respect their choice. (And I don't like it, but that is how I think God intended it). I so hope this makes sense. But if not, I am willing to be crucified anyways.
God Bless,
Eric.
And to answer your question, based on the reason I gave, I do not think ALL politicians are NECESSARILY, accessories to murder. (But they can be). Because you could also argue that God too is an accessory to "murder" when people commit murder, for allowing the evil situation to happen. But I have to tell you that I am not Pro-abortion. I am for people choosing Life. I am against people who choose death. But I am always in defense of "choosing". That is all I am saying. I hate the stupid Roe Vs. Wade Law in the sense that it allows people to sin, legally. And part of the problem is because it respects the right to choose to commit an evil based on a stupid premise. And I HATE IT!!! I DO, I DO!! But even if it did not exist, I know that people will choose to sin anyways.
My reason is the same for just about ANY law in existence. I believe our Moral Laws are superior. I believe that it is right to reverse Roe vs. Wade. But sin will happen anyways, and this is the greater evil I wish to battle. I want to be influential in reasoning with individuals considering doing what is wrong, to do instead what is morally right. But I think these people need help in REASONING. I don't want to put anybody in Jail, nor punish them by death for comitting murder. Patrick, I really, trully, honestly agree with you AND Jay! I really really do.
Maybe, some people (politicians or not) are actually accessories to murder simply by "how" they think. I don't know. But I cannot with certainty say ALL of them are accessories to murder because this would be false witness. (I think). But hear me, I wish all abortion could and would cease and desist. As well as all the other lesser pivotal issues regarding sin.
