A Wake-Up Call for The Democratic Party

I think the most important thing that came out of last night's results (other than the pro-life judges we'll get on the bench) was the point that many in Ohio and other states voted for Bush though they were against the War on Terror and felt his economic policies were ineffective.

Why did they do this? Because the Democratic Party has ceded moral values to Republicans - in other words, voters chose moral issues over economic or political issues in a big way. The Democratic Party has to deal with its perception as the pro-abortion, pro-euthansia, pro-embryonic stem cell research, anti-marriage party. There were 11 states with a ballot initiative to define marriage as being between one man and one woman. How many passed? Every one of them. The majority of the population defines themselves as pro-life. These are big issues the Democrats aren't dealing with.

I was very disappointed to see California pass Proposition 71. Basically a state that can barely pay its bills is funding junk science in a way no corporation would ever do. Shame on Arnold, who - by the way - is another pro-abortion Catholic that shouldn't be receiving communion.

Let's hope the Democrats start rethinking their Party ban on pro-lifers. Imagine the percentage of the Catholic vote a pro-life Democrat would get! In the meantime, it's now up to the population to push President Bush in a more pro-life way. He has a stronger Senate and House majority, so hopefully some of those pro-life judges will make it through the nomination process. But in order to succeed, much prayer is needed.

God bless,
Jay

At a time when the moral fabric of this country is in question, the country votes primarily based on moral values. That is a promising sign. I second your statement, I would hope that the democratic party does not look at being pro-life as just a republican thing but as a humanity item.

I question the character of the “morality” that the majority of this country say was the grounding for their vote. What “morality” is this?

Is it a naval-gazing morality?

Is it a morality that guarantees (our!) hearth and home (at the expense of others??)???

A morality that blesses the status quo?

Is it a morality that sanctions a war that John Paul II calls immoral? [If you’re going to sing “debatable issue! debatable issue!” then I suggest you actually enter into that particular debate in detail, and engage the Vatican – or keep quiet!]

Bush will continue to ensure that the self-interests of big businesses are secured, that environmental policies will be stripped, that overseas (cheap) labor will be exploited, and all this with devastating results. Will we Pro-lifers say anything about this? Or will we be too busy celebrating???

I truly hope this election at least results in the severe limiting or even the banning of abortion in this country…but equally in the investing in programs aimed at limiting/reducing/eliminating the negative social-economic “incentives” that push so many young women to consider abortion – our anti-abortion segment of Pro-Life needs to focus more on the latter here.

Peace.

I believe that sometime around 1984 the "pro-life Democrat" became a Republican.

Additionally, because we have primary elections no even remotly socially conservative dem would stand a chance. I mean, DailyKos is already calling for Howard Dean to be the new DNC chairman. They are only going to get more and more liberal.

Hey! SInce you guys think all Kerry supporters are sinners because of their support of a pro-abortion candidate, I am windering.

Has George Bush proved himself to be their savior since he won - and Kerry lost? I mean, since Kerry lost, are those that voted for him still going to be punished by God for voting for him? Or since George won, he has done us sinning Kerry supporters a favor?

EEEE!

Joshua,
What? You're too confused to even make sense! First, the bloggers here have never stated that it is a sin to vote for John Kerry. I do believe you have an obligation to vote for someone who will not help others kill babies. Don't you?

I'm curious: How do you justify voting for Kerry? Or do you just ignore the six million babies a year murdered because of legalized abortion?

God bless,
Jay

PS - what are you "windering" up? ;-)

Not that I supported Kerry, but is Bush really going to stop all 6 million of those babies being murdered?

Let's hope and pray.

First let me say that I'm adamantly opposed to abortion based on a moral standpoint, but I'm noticing that all the writers here about abortion are humans who will never know what it means to be pregnant. Hmmmm....

I believe that with education, openness and a loving home that my four year old daughter will not get pregnant before she finds the man with whom she will spend the rest of her life. But, if, by chance, her mother and I make some mistake which causes her to make a moral error I hope there is a government who will protect her. I hope she doesn't have to go to some back alley midwife or shove a wire hanger up her vagina because I was less than a good parent.

You people talk about welfare mothers, but then you don't want to give them an avenue to keep an unwanted child from growing up in squalor. You can't have it both ways.

By the way, look up "conservative" and "liberal" in the dictionary. Which would you say applies to the Pharisees and which to Jesus? That's what I thought. So what's your point?

God bless us all.

Dan,
Allowing your daughter to have an abortion will damage her for life - choose adoption if the choice comes up! I personally know women who had abortions 30+ years ago and still cry at night.

Also, what sin did the child commit that deserves the death penalty? The government should protect the child; after all, in your family the child is the only one in danger of being killed.

In today's world Jesus would have been a conservative on moral issues. Also, "liberal" in the dictionary probably leaves out the absolute moral decay of the Democratic party.

God bless,
Jay

Jesus almost always gave a choice. He rarely told people what to do. "Ye without sin throw the first stone", for example.

With my wife's and my teachings, the love in our home, I doubt my daughter will ever have the problem. You miss the point. Probably because, as I said before you will never know how it feels. Easy for you to judge.

The same way you judge me as being immoral simply because of my political affiliation even though I stated up front that I found the "A" word immoral.

Based on my upbringing in a particular denomination, and my contact with those same people at college, I am sure that when you close with "God bless" you sadly shake your head because I am so wrong and you are so right.

Maybe if the Pope let you guys put some Saran Wrap around your ding-a-lings there wouldn't be such a problem.

Ummm... Doesn't your example quote completely contradict your second statement? While Jesus always gives a choice, isn't Jesus always telling people what to do? (take the Sermon on the Mount for example).

Also, are you aware that every attempt to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies through condom use has had the reverse effect? Did you know that Planned Parenthood, U.N. groups, and governments trying to reduce unwanted / unplanned pregnancies through sex ed and promoting the use of condoms all acknowledge this?

Did you know that their universal response to all this is always to increase condom promotion and decrease the target age group for sexual education? Did you know that the increased efforts have always failed to achieve the desired results? Did you know that the response to these failures was even more condom promotion at an earlier and earlier age? Did you know it just gets worse and worse?

Did you know that doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is Einstein's definintion of insanity?
