Because of the sheer volume of interest, we've compiled all of the reviews and information about the movie The Passion of the Christ into one section of the website. Of course, I encourage everyone to visit other areas as well!
We now have less than a month to the actual opening date of the movie, which occurs on Ash Wednesday, February 25th, 2004. In my mind this is the perfect way to start Lent: take a day off, watch the movie (good mental preparation) and go to Mass. From all that I've heard, this is a life changing movie. Justin, a relative of those at DeoOmnisGloria, saw the movie and gave us his review of the Passion of the Christ here. He's a strong Christian, soon to be a priest, so when a movie "changes" his "life," I sit up and pay attention.
Anyway, our officialThe Passion of the Christ movie category is now up. We will add more posts as information becomes available. By the way, you should also check out the official website of the movie here.
God bless,
Jay

I can hardly wait till this movie comes to our local theater. We have had a great discussion in our Bible Study group just this morning.
I am preparing a program for our ladies circle of our church and I will be sharing with them all I can on this movie. Even though I have not seen it, I am hoping to learn more about it as time gets closer to its presentation.
Is there any addition material I can obtain before the movie is released. Please submit to sxxc@aol.com
I have to say that my priorities have changed by watching this movie. I had forgotten what my reason for living was. It's about time that the truth be shown on the big screen. Where else can people sit and listen to what the truth is, certainly not in a book. I think the movie was gruesome, but that speaks only the truth about what happened to Jesus. Jews blaming Gibson and Christians, Christians blaming Jews, that's what the devil wants. For all of us to keep hating each other and not have peace like Jesus intended. I certainly was moved by this movie. I felt a bit uncomfortable about the Jewish community throwing Jesus onto the Romans. But, I shall pray for those who do not see the light. Praise Jesus!
I have not yet seen the movie, however I am planing to see it. I have heard several comments from people that have and I know for sure that I will go see it.
I hope with all my heart that everyone that sees this movie will remember why Christ had to die this way, it was for us, OUR sins. This was planned by God from the first moment Jesus was born. A physical man killed Jesus, however God was the planner of his death!!!!! for us to listen to Jesus, and follow his plan for our salvation. I don't want Jesus coming back and denying me or my family. So, please don't let the media and so called believers change or ruin the true meaning for us. Look and listen to how the world is changing for Satan, we can't let Satan get away with this evil and hatred that he is pouring out on us. So, pray and belive in Jesus, that is all we have to do, be born again and spend eternity with sweet Jesus. In His blessing. Peggy February 29, 2004 11:00 PM
man!! I saw the movie just today, and it was awsome. I loved it, I mean it was like been exsactly there when Jesus was being torcher. Thank you God for letting us all see a part of what you went through, coz I know that was not even close to what you went through. Thank you Mel Gibson, for litsening to the Holy Spirit and making this movie, THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST for all world to see. I believe Jesus is right there sitting at the righ hand of God, both smiling for what you have done. May God bless you, and your family, and remember, never give up, coz The most high God is there, and wont leave your side ever! take care. and thanks for making such a great movie.
an incredibly powerful movie..horrific scenes of punishment of our Christ..OUR Christ..all of us. truly , if you come out of this movie untouched, then there is a stone where your heart was. As a mother of a son, i was especially brought to tears watching Mary's grief. We are at a crossroads ...we will self destruct if Mr Gibson's message is not clear in the world. Christ's Passion.
Well, I finally saw the film last night. Wow... What sinners we all are. Each of us. It's hard to think that God can differentiate between us, steeped as we are in it.
So many emotions came up watching the film. Trepidation in the garden. Spite as the temple guards kept abusing Christ on the way to the temple. Understanding as the priests questioned and condemned Him (I know, this was a strange emotion). Sorrow for Judas when he realized what he had done and fell victim to the demons that haunted him. Deep and abiding remorse and self-identification with Peter's denial. Longing for the touch and comfort of our mother. More understanding as Pilate contemplated Christ's fate. Disgust at Herod's empty self-indulgence. Hatred for the Roman soldiers whose greatest joy was inflicting pain. Revulsion at the sight of my sins peeling away the flesh of my King with every vindictive stroke of those whips. Numbness as the toll became so high that I could no longer fathom the cost. Excruciating appreciation with Mary Magdala, sopping up that precious life-giving blood, now keenly aware of the true price of Christ's generous discharge, "Then neither do I accuse you." Heroism as Christ proudly tells Mary, "See Mother, I make all things new!" Relief as Jesus is finally placed on the Cross. Disbelief as He absolves the worthless and undeserving soldiers and priests. Gratefulness at His final act of generosity, giving us His own mother. Triumph as His sacrifice is completed and that old serpent realizes His defeat! And finally an overwhelming sense of hope and renewal as Christ exits the empty tomb.
Overall, I left the theater with two general feelings and a renewed sense of purpose. First, bitterness at what my sin inflicted on my God. Second, as I sat there with the credits going up, I could not stop thinking over and over again, "My sweet precious Jesus loved me that much!" Lastly, I absolutely must go and love the world, just as Christ has loved me. I was as worthless as the soldiers and priests, yet His passion was for me. I must be no less forgiving. What suffering of mine could possibly justify the gift I have been given? Nothing.
In Christ,
Dave
The movie was very moving. I am wondering about symbolizm. What was ment by the devil holding a baby, who was the baby? I've heard, "born out of sin" or to represent "the antichrist". Very interested to know what Mel Gibson was feeling then.

Jolene,
Mel actually answered this in a recent interview. Take a look at this article: Questions about The Passion of the Christ? We've had some great feedback on the potential answers to this scene in particular.

Tremendous movie. No movie had come this close to the truth about what our Jesus had gone through for us. He is indeed the only one true God and King of kings because no other can go through that last 12 hours. Thank you my Saviour.
Hi Sam,
Many, many other persons went through similar "12 hour" experiences as described/portrayed in Gibson's Passion. This is, I think, a tribute to a portion of Gibson's Passion that is universally laudable - i.e. the vivid and reasonably accurate portrayal of 1st Century Roman Crucifixion. And, yet several of the crucifixion procedures as described in the movie were incorrect.
I do not claim to be a big fan of Gibson's Passion. In fact, I spend more time criticising it than offering praise. Franco Zeffirelli's JESUS OF NAZARETH provides overall, a much more plausible sketch of both Jesus' passion as well as his entire ministry. A much more balanced and cogent choice of narrative scenes are woven into this movie (Zeffirelli's) than are in Gibson's.
I am far too outspoken about Gibson's Passion.
Peace!
