Underpopulation: Russia is Reaping What It Has Sown for Decades
Taken from an article I read in CCL(Couple to Couple League) Family Foundations publication, chief gynecologist at the Health Ministry in Russia, Vladimir Serov, reports that abortions are one of the primary causes of infertility in a country that is desperate to raise a plummeting birth rate. About 5 million - or 13% - of Russian married couples are infertile, and doctors report that diagnoses of infertility are on the rise.
In nearly three out of four cases, infertility is attributed to the women, typically because of complications from one or more abortions.
A study in 1994 found that the average Russian woman had three abortions by the end of her child-bearing years. For every live birth there are 1.7 abortions, compared with more than 3 births for every abortion in the United States. Even though Russian health experts claim that abortion rates have been rapidly declining in the past 15 years, the damage has already been done. Russian health and demographics experts say the abortion legacy has created a problem greater than the private trauma of childless couples, because the resulting infertility contributes to a low birth rate. That trend and a soaring death rate are helping reduce Russia's population at a rapid rate.
Projections show Russia will lose more than a quarter of its poplulation, dropping from 143 million people to 104 million by 2050.
Even more devastating is the solution for this problem, the promotion of contraceptives! Please keep this country in your prayers and take a more active stand against abortion in our own country as well. May God have mercy on our world and may we return to a culture of life instead of drowning in the constant bloodshed of the culture of death.

Somehow, I find little consolation in the fact that the more than 40 million American babies murdered by abortionists are being dispatched at a rate of one in four, especially since that figure is a lie that excludes the victims of chemical self-induced abortions via abortifacients like the pill.
And just who is promoting baby murder in Russia today? The last time I looked Planned Parenthood was headquartered in New York not Moscow!

Maria, great article. I wonder if this russian gynocologist is reaching many people. I hope the message is spreading and will decrease the abortion rate. I cannot imagine the devastation of aborting my child and then years later (when I think I'm ready to be a mother) realizing that I've sacrificed my own fertility. There are so many women who have abortions and then regret it, rightly so. It is true that we must pray for Russia and for the unborn everywhere.
To Earl, I hope you drop back in to see this. I'm not really sure what you are saying here. Are you suggesting that Maria was accusing Russia of something we don't do?
I think Maria is suggesting that we pray for our brothers and sisters in Russia. I don't think anyone on this website thinks that the battle to stop abortion is over here in the United States. Nor should we stop trying to fight that battle.
Personally, I totally disagree with Planned Parenthood. I think their organization title is an oxymoron. It is not God's will for US to plan parenthood, that is HIS job! I think they would help more people if they restructured their program and changed the name to Planned Adulthood. But just because we have our own problems here (and we have plenty), that doesn't mean we should give up on the souls abroad.
We have written so many articles here on DeoOmnisGloria about living a daily God fearing, God loving, Catholic faith embracing life! For the people who don't embrace God in His fullness, that approach most likely will not benefit them. We have to take baby steps and the biggest step of all is prayer.

Thanks Krista for your comment. Hi Earl glad to have you on. Your website is great, too. Maybe I read into your comment the wrong way or perhaps you read my article the wrong way. If you look at the article again the statistics I quoted were from 1994, obviously numbers have changed 9 years later. I was using this article to make people more globally aware of the abortion crisis and to show what could happen in our country if we don't take more action and pray more. That is all nothing more, nothing less. And yes the headquarters for Planned Parenthood are in New York, but they operate globally especially with the UN. We all live in this world and we all have to work together with God's grace to help bring people back to Christ in our own country and throughout the world. Thank you for taking the time to care and for fighting the good fight.

Please be assured that I have the greatest respect for this blog and for the hard work its creators put into it.
I'll try restating my point directly so that it may be clearer.
As the homeland of the Culture of Death, America is importing abortion, euthanasia, homosexuality, pornography, etc., across the globe as part of its vision of liberal--as in libertine--democracy.
We should indeed expose the Culture of Death wherever it threatens lives, but the most deadly blows are the ones struck at its head--as Catholic Americans this duty is ours.
I know you are doing your part--forgive me for not making that clearer earlier. If I may ever be of any help, please call on me.
