Dead People don’t Work
I just received my latest copy of Business 2.0 magazine and it had a captivating cover story on the future of work in America (I’ll link to it as soon as it’s online). Apparently, the job market is about to face serious consequences as the Baby Boom generation begins to retire, because there aren’t enough living people to fill all of the white-collar positions (it’s difficult for immigration to fill white-collar jobs in mass quantities). The article didn’t address this point, but Why are there so few workers available? It’s an interesting question.
If we look back, the birth control pill (a revolution in the U.S.) became available in the early 1960’s and was the first ultra-simple way to control the ultimate effects of sex (it acts as an abortifacient, but that’s another story). In addition, Roe v. Wade made abortion legal in the U.S in 1973. These two factors combined can account for more children that the shortage predicts.
For example, in 2020, the article suggests we will be short 20 million white-collar workers in the U.S. Well, if you assume that a worker must be over 23 (born before 1997) and have a college degree (assume 40% of those born), then we needed an additional 50 million births that weren’t stopped by birth control or killed by abortion between the early sixties and the late nineties.
Ultimately the article seems to suggest that the U.S. economy won’t be affected by this, but I find that difficult to believe. It seems that we will be “reaping what we’ve sown” to coin an old phrase. Perhaps the wisdom of the Church will become evident to some of those CEO’s and leaders who become desperate for employees which don’t exist.

The effects of negative population growth have been economically detrimental in Russia, China, and in parts of Europe.
The good news is that couples like Sam and Bethany Torode:

are leading the way for Gen Y to be open to new life.

Indeed, immigration has been crucial in assisting the US economy—especially over the last 25 years.
Posted by: Amanda at August 21, 2003 07:49 PMfirst we must get off the couch. lower the costs of a great education. and set ourselves up to recieve the blessings through our father Abraham that God promised. as i stated in another article, it's not the fault of the public that there are no jobs, it's these CEO's and their crooked ways. as children of God, un-employment is not an issue that we face, it is our lack of faith that God is the source of all and that He will provide. when you seek Him, ask Him to bless the labor of your hands, give Him your first fruit, like it is written and not the bill collectors (that's why the government takes theirs off the top, they know not to trust us) and watch God gives you and provides for you all that your heart desires.

God is more concerned about whether we get to heaven than He is with how much money we have. God's blessings are meant to help us make it to heaven, not to make our life on earth easier (this are often opposing goals).
Also, this article has nothing to do with your points. This article expounds upon the detrimental effects contraception is having on our society and it's future.
God bless,

jay,
you're question was why are there so few workers available? and you said that abortion and birth control is or will be the cause. i don't believe that. i live in Texas where there are a lot of immigrants from everywhere who are have
bi-lingualed American born children who they insist on to get a great education and do something with themselves un-like us patriotic citizens who try to do whatever works for us. that's not wise on our part and they ain't God. will our economy be affected, i don't care because that's where i take ypur side on my previous comments.
I've finally added another article exploring the Biblical argument against contraception.
God bless,
Jay
Jay,
Mark the calender, for once I am in agreement
with you. I am a baby boomer (Just turned 50)
I an disappointed for the most part in my generation. We had great parents but chose to raise our kids with Dr. Spock instead of with the bible and God. We were selfish and had no
kids and worked for the big house and the grown up toys, or we had one or two Children instead of
accepting what God sent our way ... I am single,
I've never been married. Just couldn't find a woman who would tie the knot, but I was and still
am looking ...
I don't want to stereo type or generalize but I
I know people my age who stayed single or didn't
have children after they got married. Many were
on the pill or had abortions out of convenience. Sorry to say the baby boomers are a selfish
bunch. You are correct, our generation and our
country will reap what we have sown unless God
is Merciful.. May God Forgive us our pride and
our selfishness..
Clem
